Amen.

What do you do after being cooped up for 4 long days with sick kids? Build trains, of course!

Cute Stocking Stuffer

I can't believe I am thinking this far in advance! From Land of Nod Wow, $2.95!
We made soup last week for dinner and I wanted to garnish it with baked tortilla chips. They ended up a little big so I added cinnamon and sugar and we ate them on the side. It was quite the hit with the kiddies.

(Cut shapes with cookie cutters out of tortilla shells. spray both sides with oil then broil both sides until brown and crisp. Add salt or cinnamon and sugar) Compliments of my son's preschool kitchen!

My Caterpillars

As I drove my 6 year old to a dentist appt. today I could tell she was a little fearful of what was coming. We were listening to her CD that we made recently and Miley Cyrus's song "Butterfly Fly Away" came on. We cranked up the volume and mumbled along as well as we could. I love the words. It brought me back to my childhood and the feelings of fear and anxiety that often accompanied me as I tried but failed to fall asleep at night. I thought about how my mother would always calm me down and help me rationalize my fears away. I thought about how I, as a mother now, am at my worst at night when my kids won't go to bed and I am spent. I felt sad that I'm not more like my mother who brought peace rather than anger when I took up more of her evening than she had planned. I want my kids to have fond memories of me like I have of my mother. I need to think of my 4 little caterpillars as future butterflies.

Caterpillar in the tree, how you wonder who you'll be.
Can't go far but you can always dream.
Wish you may and wish you might,
Don't you worry...hold on tight.
Promise you that there will come a day.
Butterfly, fly away.
Got your wings now you can't stay,
Take those dreams and make them all come true.
Butterfly, fly away.
You've been waiting for this day,
All along you've known just what to do,
Butterfly, butterfly, butterfly, fly away!

Finally...

I have had a few minutes to breath and do something fun for myself. I've been wanting to try some "re-fasioning" like this cool girl. It was so easy! I ruffled-up this $7 target shirt in less than 1/2 an hour. I want to dig through my wardrobe and re-fashion everything!

I always tried out the Oliver and S skirt pattern below. It's very easy and fast. I wanted more of a pencil skirt with not too much poof so I made my fabric width only 1 1/2 times the waist measurement. I found both the fabric and vintage lace at a thrift store for a couple bucks. Now I need to make myself one to go with my new shirt!

Can't Wait...

to try this pattern out! Buy it here.

Want an easy afternoon project?

Here's a free pattern from Oliver and S. I have some thick wooly tweed that I think I will try to use with this pattern. I think it would also be darling in Linen with a big thick lace at the bottom. I'll let you know if either turn out!

If I had a Lapotop..

I'd carry it in this.

Matilda Jane

I just ordered this skirt for my 6 year old, but don't you think those socks are darling? They'd be so easy to make! I think I better try it!

Coming Up!

I am doing the Baby Day Expo this year. This is the first and maybe the only show that I will go to and stay with my booth the whole show!
